摘要
The use of a coplanar capacity type applicator operating at a low RF of 13.56 MHz for whole-body heating is the prime idea of this design. This approach has allowed solution of three main problems: first, achieve deep penetration of the EM field in the body tissue and thus provide effective heating of the whole body, whereas the skin could be cooled to desired temperatures in the range from 34 to 39°C; second, to minimize the normal component of the E-field and consequently avoid overheating of fat; and, third, give the opportunity of arranging additional local hyperthermia simultaneously with WBH. This allows one to develop a hyperthermia procedure with a new quality. This new quality is such that the heating of the whole body up to 41.5-43°C (which is necessary for metastases and disseminated secondary tumor reduction) can be provided with simultaneous supplementary local heating of the malignant nodules or massive neoplasm to temperatures of 45°C and over. The installation is named Yachta-5 and allows for clinical applications by the Technical Commission of the Health Ministry of Russia. It was successfully applied in leading oncology clinics in Russia and Belarus in combined treatment for severe and disseminated malignant tumours
