Exfoliated molybdenum disulfide for dye sensitized solar cells

•Description of exfoliated molybdenum disulfide (E-MoS2) preparation to be employed as photoactive and electron transfer enhancer in photovoltaic devices.•E-MoS2 exhibits different absorption bands compare to non-exfoliated molybdenum disulfide, which provide a useful tool as photoactive material in anode of photoelectrochemical cells.•E-MoS2 is employed to enhance electron transfer reactions on the devices.•Presentation of two methods in which E-MoS2 may be employed for photovoltaic applications.
