The predictive value of human papillomavirus testing for the outcome of patients conservatively treated for stage IA squamous cell cervical carcinoma

•The negative predictive value of HPV testing for CIN2+ in 91 patients was studied.•After 50 months of median follow-up, a value of 1.00 was observed.•HPV testing can determine whether treatment has eradicated localised carcinoma.•An effort to undertake a larger multicentre confirmatory study is needed.
