•We conducted comprehensive chemical study on moringa for the first time.•Acid hydrolysis was applied to release the aglycones for accurate quantitation.•Anti-inflammatory activity was assayed.•The method developed was well evaluated and the thermal stability of flavonoid malonyl derivatives was determined.
