摘要
Silicone injections in the breast for augmentation and aesthetic reasons began after the second world war and became a common procedure in the 60s and 70s. Many complications arose due to the type of silicone used and the nonexperienced personnel who performed these interventions. The case of a middle-aged woman treated after receiving injected silicone 15 years earlier is presented. The extraction of silicone in the breast can prove very challenging. A nipple-sparing mastectomy is a good option for the removal of silicone. The initial mode of treatment with tissue expanders in just one of her breasts was effective. The placement of a permanent silicone implant in one of the breasts had to be postponed due to inflammation. The authors had to perform a reconstruction of her breast with a latissimus dorsi muscle flap. The tried methods of restoration in this case are highlighted and the final outcome is presented.
