Study of the Angular Distribution of Heavy Fragments Produced in the Interaction of 58 GeV 16O Ions with a 1 Cm Thick Cu-target

摘要
The angular distribution of heavy fragments produced in the interaction of 58 GeV 16O ions within a 1 cm thick Cu target has been studied using CR-39 plastic track detectors. Similar studies using the same experimental set-up and 72 GeV 40Ar ions have been published previously. We observed also in this experiment (58 GeV 16O), that (0.13 ± 0.07) % of the total number of primary 16O ions are emitted into a forward angle 3° < Θ < 45°. These fragments are likely to be relativistic heavy fragments carbon (Z - 6) and nitrogen (Z - 7).
