Selective detection and discrimination of nitro explosive vapors using an array of three luminescent sensory solid organic and hybrid polymer membranes

•Nitro explosive vapors were detected and discriminated using sensory films.•Three sensory films were designed and prepared.•The sensory materials are luminescent solid organic and hybrid polymer membranes.•The fluorescence data from the array of films were statistically treated.•TNT, RDX and PETN were discriminated between them and between 6 explosive mimics.
