Training Program of Synthesizing a Radiopharmaceutical in KAERI

Medical facilities using radiopharmaceuticals such as 2-deoxy-2-\( \left[ {^{ 1 8} {\text{F}}} \right] \)fluoroglucose \( \left( {^{ 1 8} {\text{F}} - {\text{FDG}}} \right) \) have increased in number in Korea. As 18F-FDG is used in many medical facilities, a reliable quality control system is needed in its synthesis in addition to skilled technical personnel who can manage the process. Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute recently started to operate its own 30 MeV cyclotron at Jeongeup, where 18F-FDG is to be produced. A month-long training program with two segments, each of which has 2 weeks, is planned for college undergraduates and graduates to practice synthesis of 18F-FDG and its handling.
