Validation of a pressure sensor-based system for measuring eating, rumination and drinking behaviour of dairy cattle

•Automatic equipment was used to measure feeding behaviour of cattle.•We compared results from a pressure-based system (RumiWatch) with video recordings.•There was systematic error for eating and drinking time but not for rumination time.•Random error for rumination and eating was slight, but was greater for drinking.
