Pyroelectricity of Preferably-Oriented Pb 5 Ge 3- x Si x O 11 Thick Films Prepared by the Printing Technique

A printing technique being simple and inexpensive was used for preparing pyroelectric detector chips. Pinhole-free Pb5Ge3-xSixO11 thick films (30~40 µm) with preferred orientations of a- and c-planes could be successfully made in the range of x=0~1.0. It is of much interest that distinguished reorientation occurred even below the melting points. The preferably-oriented films showed a frequency vs. responsivity relation characteristic of pyroelectric sensors, suggesting high possibility to be used as a commercial detector.
