Simulating the spatial variability of nitrous oxide emission from cropped soils at the within-field scale using the NOE model

•6 spatial studies of chamber N2O emissions were conducted at within field scale.•The NOE model was tested to simulate the spatial variability of emissions.•Prediction of individual fluxes was possible in 1 of the 6 cases.•A stochastic simulation with the denitrification part of the model was tested.•It correctly simulated frequency distributions in 4 of the 5 cases.
