摘要

•A novel method for identifying pruning branches in tall spindle apple trees.•Pruning rules were defined based on observation of human pruning.•These pruning rules were applied to 3D skeletons of apple trees.•With optimization of pruning parameters, automatic identification results closely matched desired pruning level.
