Analysis of the Intrinsic Mode Functions for Speaker Information.

•The Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs) of speech are used for Speaker Verification (SV).•Three features are extracted from the IMFs of Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and modified EMD (MEMD).•In combination with MFCCs, the features provide enhanced performance of the SV system.•Only a small set of the IMFs (<= 6) are necessary and useful in augmenting the performance of the SV system.•The features are useful for normal, fast, and whispered speech articulations, and shortduration test utterances (<= 10 s).
