•This is first report to analyze the complexity of ALK fusions in-depth.•Clinical characteristics of ALK fusions were analyzed in a large-scale study cohorts.•EGFR mutation and ALK fusions, different ALK variants and subtypes can coexist.•No ALK fusion was found in SCLC and cancer with lung metastasis from other organs.
