Analyzing Medium-Size Information Technology Department Using Social Network Analysis

Companies and organizations want to use their resources effectively. In order to achieve this they have to have a good organizational structure. In the recent years, social network analysis studies examining the structure of the organizations using the existing natural social networks in organizations that have been made frequently. This study identifies social networks in a medium-sized technology company, and examines these social networks. The data used in the study, is obtained from in-house surveys, face-to-face interviews, and application development infrastructure. The research examines, the organizational structure, similarities of the social networks, diffusion of knowledge, use of application development tool, and the social networks that support R& D ideas. The results of the study have been assessed with the managers. The assessment has shown that the results of the study provide important administrative feedback to the organization.
