An efficient heuristic algorithm for the alternative-fuel station location problem.

•We solve the alternative-fuel station location problem.•Our heuristic algorithm is based on solving a sequence of sub-problems.•A parallel computing strategy is used to reduce computation time of the algorithm.•Our algorithm outperforms current best-known heuristic algorithms.•Our algorithm can obtain optimal solutions for all tested benchmark instances.
