摘要
Due to the advent of biometric technologies in the past two decades, the switch from research laboratories to mainstream application has also attracted a wave of identity theft and biometric spoofing. This is particularly evident in the case of newer and less mature technologies such as the biometric recognition of hand vein patterns. Liveness detection methods have become a necessity for any biometric system but in the case of vein patterns, there are unexplored options that can increase the degree of security of the system. The paper describes a multimodal liveness detection system by fusing capacitive sensing arrays, temperature and pressure monitoring together with a software post processing technique previously described by the authors. While there is an added layer of complexity, both the sensors and the data extracted from them do not require significant financial or computational needs. By applying this method to an existent biometric vein scanner, the degree of protection of the system is increased due to the added constrains required for a sample to be analyzed by the system.
