摘要
•Histamine H3 receptor activation reduces electrically evoked dopamine release in mouse striatal brain slices.•The effect is detected in the ventral but not dorsal striatum.•The effect is absent when release is triggered by selective optogenetic stimulation of dopaminergic axons.•H3 receptor activation decreases the firing of cholinergic interneurons in the ventral striatum.•We conclude that H3 receptor activation decreases dopamine release indirectly by acting on cholinergic interneurons.
