•D. magna was exposed to waterborne Uranium and a mine effluent to assess RIBE.•Assess if inter-organismic RIBE plays a role in environmental risk assessment.•The uranium mine effluent caused a less pronounced RIBE effect.•RIBE depends on the age of exposed organisms and on cohabitation duration.•Recovery of DNA damages was observed in exposed and non-exposed organism.
