A fully automated system using transcription-mediated amplification for the molecular diagnosis of hepatitis E virus in human blood and faeces.

•We evaluated the performance of the Procleix HEV RNA assay implemented on the Panther automated platform.•The assay specificity was 100%.•There was no cross-contamination.•Clinical evaluation of 500 plasma and 19 faecal samples agreed very well with the reference assay.•The Procleix HEV RNA assay is suitable for detecting HEV RNA in human blood and faeces.
