An updated and validated PET/CT volumetric prognostic index for non-small cell lung cancer.

•The PET/CT volumetric prognostic (PVP) index was updated and validated using 949 NSCLC patients.•Updated PVP index combines the prognostic power of the TNM stage, metabolic tumor volume and age.•Updated PVP index was associated with overall survival in both modeling and validation cohorts.•Updated PVP index has moderate predictive power as indicated by its C-statistics of 0.71.•Updated PVP index offers prognostic power superior to TNM stage alone or metabolic tumor volume.
