Suicidal Behaviour among Children and Adolescents in China.

Suicidal behaviour is an important mental health issue, and suicide has become an important cause of death in children and adolescents in China.1 A cross-sectional study2 of 12 733 children and adolescents aged 9–18 years showed that the prevalence of suicidal ideation was 32%; in another cross-sectional study,3 338 (2·7%) of 12 470 adolescents reported that they had attempted suicide at least once in the past year. Two meta-analyses4,5 reported that the overall pooled prevalence of suicidal ideation was 10·7% and that of suicide attempt was 2·8% among college students.
