Biodegradable-polymer versus polymer-free drug eluting stents for the treatment of coronary artery disease.

•Both BP- and PF-DES are as safe as each other in regards to all-cause death, myocardial infarction and stent thrombosis.•BP- are superior to PF-DES with regard to the efficacy outcomes of TVR, TLR and decreased angiographic LLL.•Where clinicians have a choice between these platforms, apart from specific subgroups where PF-DES have been shown to be superior, BP-DES should be the preferred platform.
