•Chemical composition and toxicity test of A. boehmii kernel oil from Burundi were investigated.•A. boehmii kernels provide a promising source of oil which is present in considerable content.•A. boehmii oil contains essential fatty acids and a considerable amount of bioactive molecules.•Acute oral toxicity test revealed no toxicity of A. boehmii kernel oil.
