DVB-T2 Coverage Area in Albanian Allotments using existing Analog TV Transmitting Antennas

In this paper theoretical analysis and field test measurement are described and compared for the possibility of reusing the existing analog TV transmitting antenna for DVB-T2 radio coverage in Albania. Antenna radiation characteristics are provided for the analog (existing) frequency plan and also for new frequency channels used on DVB-T2 according to Geneva'06 agreement for frequency assignment plans. Antenna coverage area simulations are performed using Longley Rice model for new frequency channels used on DVB-T2. The simulation results are compared with practical series of field measurements in the surrounding of Korça city in Albania. The obtained results show the main issues that need to be considered in reusing antennas at different frequencies rather of their design at the previous frequencies.
