Levodropropizine suppresses seizure activity in rats with pentylenetetrazol-induced epilepsy.

•Worldwide, millions of people suffer from drug-resistant epilepsy and there continues to be a need for effective and highly tolerable anticonvulsant medications.•Levodropropizine (LVDP) is an established antitussive drug that, based on preclinical data, may also have anticonvulsant activity.•In this animal study which utilizes a rat model for epilepsy, LVDP significantly reduced seizure activity as measured through EEG, Racine’s convulsion score, and time to first myoclonic jerk.•Our results replicate earlier published data which also demonstrate LVDP’s anticonvulsive properties on murine models for epilepsy.
