Results of conversion of gastric banding to gastric bypass in patients between 50 and 60 years of age are similar to those observed in younger patients.

•Regardless of gender or age, revisional LRYGB yielded acceptable weight-loss results.•Similar rates of comorbidity improvement were observed among the subgroups.•Comparable overall early complication rates were observed regardless of age of gender.•More late complications were observed in females when compared to males.
