As the rate of change in technology continues to accelerate, it has begun to move too fast for traditional skills programs to keep students up to date. Twenty years ago, IBM addressed this with the development of the IBM Academic Initiative which provides no-charge use of most IBM middleware for approved academic institutions. This has been augmented over the years with Cloud access to much of these software tools, thus reducing system administration workloads trying to keep up with change.
