The adipokine, progranulin (PGRN) is cardio-protective in myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury in the rat

Aim: Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death in developed countries. The consequences of CHD are due to the damaging effects of acute myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (MI/R) injury. Progranulin (PGRN), an adipokine, is expressed in atherosclerosis plaque, and its deletion exacerbates atherosclerosis in mice. This study aims to examine the role of PRGN in acute MI/R injury in the rat.
