Proposing a new approach and a rigorous cut-off value for identifying precognition

•Simulations of the Sequential Forced-Choice Task of five stimuli were performed.•Conjointly, simulations created samples with random and precognition sequences.•The change point method was not effective for sequences lower than 30 trials.•In the other cases, the change point method was effective to separates sequences.•The defined cut-off value was effective for classifying the sequences.
