100-Terawatt titanium-sapphire laser system

Basic features of currently operated at Max-Born-Institute (Berlin, Germany) 100-TW Ti:sapphire (central wavelength similar to800 nm) laser system is presented. The laser can operate in two regimes: high, 10 Hz repetition rate delivering similar to2 J pulses with duration of similar to40 fs, and a low repetition rate (1 pulse per 15 minutes) regime delivering 100 TW pulse power (5J, < 50 fs). Nearly diffraction limited and high transverse quality output laser beam of 10 cm diameter, will allow to reach the focused power densities beyond 10(20) W/cm(2).
