•Seeded growth led to the synthesis of mono-disperse, diamond-like DDR particles.•Change of the seed amount allowed for the control of the size of all silica DDR particles.•High CO2/N2 sorption and permeation selectivities were observed for DDR zeolites.•Water adsorption depends on defects and strongly on Al constituents in DDR zeolites.
