摘要
Background & Objectives: Hypothermia is common during arthroscopic shoulder surgery under general anesthesia. Hypothermia results from a combination of anesthetic-impaired thermoregulation and exposure to a cold operating room environment. Anesthetic-impaired thermoregulation is much more important cause of hypothermia. This prospective, randomized, double blinded study was designed to compare perioperative temperature during arthroscopic shoulder surgery under general anesthesia plus interscalene brachial plexus block (IBPB) vs general anesthesia only. Materials & Methods: Patients scheduled for arthroscopic shoulder surgery were randomly allocated to receive preoperative interscalene brachial plexus block plus general anesthesia (group GB, n = 20) or only general anesthesia (group GO, n = 20). Results: The extent of hypothermia is significantly lesser in group GB than group GO during operation. When patients entered into PACU, the body temperatures of group GB were significantly higher than group GO. The concentration of desflurane were significantly lesser in group GB compared to group GO during arthroscopy. Conclusion: In this study, we found that preoperative IBPB could reduce the concentration of desflurane and the degree of hypothermia during arthroscopic shoulder surgery and helped temperature management at PACU.
