摘要
Cognitive impairment is a major cause of disability in patients affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). It is considered as a form of subcortical dementia, caused by the disruption of communicating between cortical and subcortical areas. The prevalence of cognitive dysfunction is estimated at 45 to 65%. More frequently MS patients with cognitive dysfunction evidenced deficits in the domains of memory, learning, attention and information processing. Non-conventional magnetic resonance imaging are indicated to investigate the correlation among lesion burden and neuropsychological deficits in MS. Some studies suggest significant beneficial effects of Interferon beta for the treatment of neuropsychological deficits in MS.
