•Nonlinear dynamics of an electrically actuated gyroscope are studied.•Frequency- and force-response curves are computed.•Unstable branches of the response are characterized.•The sensitivity curves are obtained.•Larger sensitivity and bandwidth are obtained through exploiting nonlinearity.
