The green efficiency of industrial sectors in China: A comparative analysis based on sectoral and supply-chain quantifications

•We use directional slacks-based inefficiency model for green efficiency measurement.•The sectoral and supply-chain green efficiency of 37 industry sectors are calculated.•We identify fundamental sectors critical for greening China’s industrial systems.•We analyze the determinants of industrial sector’s supply-chain green efficiency.•We put forward policy suggestions to advance green industry transition in China.
