Cryptococcal meningitis is the most common neurologic fungal infection in patients with AIDS. Treatment still depends heavily on amphotericin B and 5-flucytosine, although oral azoles have a role in milder cases, in follow-up to induction therapy, and in maintenance therapy. A vaccine based on the capsular polysaccharide is under development.
