Environmental Efficacy of PX-UV in the or Setting
American Journal of Infection Control(2017)
Abstract
BACKGROUND: Current literature demonstrates that cleaning and disinfection of the operating room (OR) environment may be inadequate, leaving a potential risk of infection transmission from contaminated surfaces. Mobile pulsed-xenon (PX-UV) disinfection has previously demonstrated efficacy beyond what is possible by chemical disinfection alone in the acute setting, and could plausibly serve as an adjunct to remove residual contamination following terminal OR cleaning. This is of particularly relevance to the anesthesia area, where providers could act as vectors for pathogen spread to susceptible patients.
