Nucleation and coercivity in rapidly solidified cylindrical amorphous nanowires

Amorphous glass-coated nanowires are rapidly solidified composite materials composed of a cylindrical ferromagnetic nucleus (the actual magnetic nanowire) embedded in a glass coating. Here we report on the effect of shape anisotropy and intrinsic magnetoelastic anisotropy on the nucleation and coercivity of amorphous ferromagnetic nanowires prepared by rapid quenching from the melt.
