Insights into the dynamics of Boletus edulis mycelium and fruiting after fire prevention management

•Pyrophytic Cistus shrubs host an extraordinary production of Boletus edulis.•Influence of fire prevention management was tested on B. edulis mycelium.•There was a significant influence of management over the mycelium in the soil.•There was a positive correlation between sporocarp yields and mycelium in the soil.•This may enable to predict B. edulis yields using relative quick and cheap methods.
