•Coarse CCA generally has a detrimental effect on chloride migration.•This can be largely overcome with the use of GGBS to produce CEM III/A concretes.•Sustainable structural concrete is found to be a viable option for future projects.•Up to 50% and 60% GGBS and coarse CCA respectively may be incorporated.
