Analytical modeling of shot peen forming process using cross-sectional linear indentation coverage method

•A cross-sectional linear indentation coverage method is presented to theoretically analyze shot peen forming process.•Simple explicit relations are derived to describe the deformation behavior of plates in shot peening.•The depth and coverage of indentations are proven to be the two essential factors that affect the deformation behaviors of the shot peened components.
