摘要
DNA mutation is a permanent change in the order of bases along the DNA strand such that the sequence differs from the normal genetic information. Different type of mutations may cause various effects on the produced proteins. Colored Petri Net (CPN), as a powerful tool for modeling and analysing the discrete event systems, provides an innovative and effective theoretical method for studying the biological systems. In this paper, CPN is employed for modeling and determining the classification of the mutations type. The proposed model first contrasts the bases of DNA strands to obtain the mutation position and calculate the mutation rate, and then makes a comparative analysis of the codons of amino acids along the polypeptide chain to determine the mutation type. The model is helpful for analyzing whether the changes affect the protein structures and functions. Biological examples illustrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed model.
