Numerical investigation on phase change cooling and crystallization of a molten blast furnace slag droplet

•Enthalpy method is adopted to analyze the solidification of a slag droplet.•Effect of crystal phase content on the enthalpy is firstly taken into account.•Evolutions of temperature and crystal phase content inside the droplet are obtained.•Effect of droplet diameter is discussed on the optimal operational conditions.
