Partitioned frequency domain equalization for 6-LP mode multiplexed systems with few mode fibers

Mode division multiplexed(MDM) in few mode fibers has got attraction due to its potential to achieve ultra-high capacity beyond the nonlinear Shannon limit of the single mode fiber. However, the effect of dispersion, mode coupling and differential group delay on optical signals cannot be ignored, thus equalizing these impairments are required in MDM system. In this paper, a partitioned modified frequency domain least mean square(PFDLMS) algorithm is proposed for the digital dispersion equalizer of polarization division multiplexing(PDM)-MDM coherent system. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can improve the convergence speed and get a great equalization performance.
