Amyloid Imaging In Clinically Non-Ad Atypical Dementias

Background: Clinically non-Alzheimer’s disease (AD) atypical dementias underlining amyloid pathology are difficult to diagnose using conventional diagnostic imaging techniques. The emerging amyloid-specific therapeutic interventions may necessitate accurate determination of the underlying amyloid pathology in atypical presentations of AD dementia. 11C-labelled Pittsburgh compound-B Positron Emission Tomography (11C-PiB-PET) is an advanced and useful tool for discerning the different underlying AD pathologies.
