Applying trait-based community metrics of relevance to conservation for understanding community patterns of farmland birds in Northwest Russia

•Functional community indices positively related to community taxonomic richness.•Highest community specialisation in to the boreal region was in abandoned fields.•Lowest community functional profiles were in the arable field.•Presence of ditches enhanced community functional profiles.•Farmland species number is a good indicator of community sensitivity in the region.
