摘要
•Sediment flux rates and sediment volumes imply sediments started to accumulate 12 million years ago in the Waipoga Basin.•The main source of sediments is the Ruffaer Metamorphic Belt.•55–82% of the eroded volume has been removed during the last 3 million years.•Flux rates and seismic information suggest that Plio-Pleistocene sediments are ~6–10 km thick.•These high rates of sedimentation suggest transtensional tectonics.
