•Pioneering research of textile chemiresistors with active layers based on Polymeric Ionic Liquids.•PILs/textile structures proved long-term stability of their sensing parameters together with endurance to mechanical stress.•The value of phase-angle sensitivity correlates both qualitatively and quantitatively with dipole moment of the analyte.
