•The Hybrid SAC/PDM-based OCDMA scheme was configured successfully.•This scheme was implemented with FBG-based fiber lasers to overcome the power loss.•The experiment was implemented in combining M-sequence code and polarized state.•The MAI can be cancelled completely in hybrid SAC/PDM-based OCDMA scheme.
